Students use mobile devices every day to communicate with peers, to share ideas about life, to create instant concepts through sounds, video, words and pictures, and to collect and catalog the world around. Then they enter the classroom, and it's put away. NOT in the integrated classroom, this class!
The students are full of the inquisitive, innate life of childhood.
The 5th graders (42 of them) have a passion to use all the resources available to them to explore, understand, and evaluate their worlds. They attend a school with a rigorous curriculum toward the excellent. Students are challenged to explore, discover and share their findings in all the subjects taught. They are ready to expand their use of tools with the mobile technologies to CREATE new connections and projects, COMMUNICATE with their friends, neighbors, country and beyond, and ORGANIZE their findings in a digital format. We are about fostering a love for learning, and becoming lifelong learners.
My Project
My students need to create, collaborate, and systematize their ideas in the 21st century with 2 iPads. An integrated classroom of mobile technologies allows students to infuse the daily educational journey into the learning style that ignites the passion for knowledge! A mobile technologies classroom sets students up to think beyond the four walls that surround them. Students with these devices will be able to research, think, devise, create, expand, reach out, explore, and be introspective when each time allows! The students plan to use Evernote to document their lifelong journey of learning. They will be able to capture video, sound, and pictures that show their work in stages. This will help them see their growth as they craft their writing, and prepare for a world that is ever changing. Student will document their learning through Socrative and Kidblog. These programs on a mobile device allow them to interact with the content of the classroom anywhere they are. Student will respond in a way that shows they have learned the material being discussed.
These devices will make a difference in the classroom by allowing students the opportunity to explore, learn, and reach out to their world through multiple avenues of thought.
Let us not ask students to put the devices they know how to use so well AWAY, but let's help them learn with them and teach them to use the devices for an educational and life long journey! These devices will help students recognize the importance of the tools they have for the life long journey of learning!
