My students need another trumpet available to play, the percussion section needs crash cymbals and the program needs tenor saxophone case to replace a broken case.
Have you ever played an instrument or sang and performed for an audience? Do you remember how proud and confident you felt after making music with your peers? Each day it is my job to instill in my students the love of music and the joy it can bring to their lives.
My students are talented and intelligent 7th & 8th graders who love to perform.
Each school day they amaze me with their talent and ability to improve their skills. Many of my students are bilingual and come from many different cultures. The music program at our school is made up of all the different groups on campus. It is always my goal for music to be a place where all student can belong!
I teach at the smallest middle school in the district but have over 1/3 of the student population in my program. We are also one of the oldest schools and are likewise using old instruments that are 30 or more years old. Music is an important part of the school culture on our campus.
My Project
As I stated above our school is over 30 years old and our instruments have been used well beyond their value.
I requested a trumpet because I don't have enough to loan to students during the year. The trumpet is used daily in our jazz ensemble, concert band and symphonic band. All these groups perform throughout the school year.
I have many tenor saxophone players in my wind ensembles, but the cases to keep them safe are falling apart. The tenor saxophones are also used in the jazz ensemble, concert band and symphonic band.
My third request is for a pair of crash cymbals. The percussion section adds color and accent to the bands and orchestras. Our current crash cymbals sound like tin cans banging together and take away from the beautiful music that the ensembles are creating. I would like my percussionist to feel proud of the sounds they are contributing.
The donations requested will bring joy and pride to our music classes.
Students will achieve success and confidence in music when they have instruments that work and make them sound their best. These items can be used by many students for the next 30 or more years.
