This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our student body is an aggregation of gifted and talented young people between grades 8 and 12. These students have talents in music, media and the arts that are extraordinary. They have the ability to create and produce products that support their ambitions for the future. The students within our school community come from a variety of backgrounds, neighborhoods and family structures. Some have stable and loving homes and families that nurture their abilities and educational ambitions where many of our students do not.
Many of our students depend on the school community at large to support them in several different ways.
We provide love, care and an atmosphere that tells them and reminds them of their greatness. We use our abilities as educators to emphasize their strengths and not their weaknesses. We have several students who are strong in the areas of writing, spoken word, music, and the arts. It is our continued goal and focus to continue to push them to their highest self in the area of education.
My Project
These instruments will aid our students and school in the beginning stages of having a string orchestra. We have several students who have expressed a desire to play cello and bass in order to start this orchestral group. Our school is growing and expanding and we are looking forward to our music department to grow along the same line.
We are looking to have this orchestra give our students the opportunity to participate in and be part of a group they don't often get to see in performances.
It is important that we give them this type of exposure in our school.
