This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Music students are the future of entertainment in our country. The music students in this school come from varying backgrounds, many coming from low-income homes which can take away from their success in education. Although it may be difficult, these students work hard every day to come to school, stay focused, and get good grades. In fact, many students in the music classes are honor roll students.
These hard-working students have very limited musical resources.
Only a small handful of students have their own instruments to use in class. Most of the band students rent instruments through the school, many of which are broken, missing parts, and are constantly in need of repair.
My Project
I picked out instruments for this project that allows the classroom to have fully stocked reeds, instrument care products, and instrument repair products. With instruments that are constantly falling apart and are difficult to use, supplying the school with the three different repair and care kits geared towards specific instruments provides the teacher the ability to repair the instruments cost-free. Further, it is important to have fully stocked reeds to provide reeds for beginning students. It also provides an environment where it is ok to make a mistake.
Band instruments are expensive to clean and repair, therefore I have chosen to make a project where the school's limited music fund can be placed towards buying methods books and purchasing music that is relevant and educational.
