Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember reading that first book that helped you develop a love of reading? Do you remember those integrated art lessons during math or history class?
My students are from one of the poorest and most violent cities in the country.
Every day they strive to broaden their horizons and reach for the stars. For many, school is the only safe haven they know. I work to teach them that there is a bigger world out there than the one they see every day, that they matter, and that they will always have a safe place to explore the world around them in our classroom.
My Project
Forbes recently had an article stating that in the next few decades, roughly 45% of the currently jobs done by humans will be taken over by robots. Are we properly preparing our kids for the economic realities they will face in the coming decades? It is no secret that many of our urban youth will be locked out of this future economy due to their schools failing to properly prepare them for a 21st-century global economy. It is imperative that we find creative ways to bridge this skill gap our students currently face so that these kids are competitive in the job market and can contribute to our economy as adults.
Technological literacy is essential if our students are to be competitive in a 21st Century global economy.
As a result of this, integrating technology into classroom instruction should be one of the top priorities of any good educator. Access to technology would allow students to work independently and cooperatively as active participants in the learning process rather than passive recipients of information which would ensure they develop a better depth of knowledge of the concepts they are learning. It also allows for differentiation not only on the basis of academic levels but for interests as well. Our students need a STEM Lab to help them gain the skills that will enable them to compete in a 21st Century global economy. This is why I'm asking for the Osmo kits, games, a globe and roller coaster kits. These materials will help them gain hands on 21st century skills that they need to compete in a 21st century job market.
