Despite the many challenges our students face, they work very hard during the school day and focus on their academics. At our school, more than half of our students receive free or reduced-rate lunches.
We have a motto here at our school: "What's Best for Kids, Whatever it Takes!" That is why I am asking for your help.
They need materials to read at their reading levels to participate in grade-level activities. Thank you for your help with this project!
My Project
I see many of my students for both reading and writing. For writing, my students are expected to research and write an informational essay comparing and contrasting two things, as well as writing an essay on The Revolutionary War. Most of the books in the general education setting are at grade level reading or beyond. All of my reading students are reading below grade level and struggle to read these books, so it is hard for them to actually understand what they have read. This makes it very frustrating for them when they are then asked to write about what they read.
My students need resources at their instructional reading levels, on specific topics, that they are expected to read and then write about.
