Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

As a speech teacher at a Title I elementary school, my caseload consists of students from immigrant families who have an array of needs (e.g. language and speech intervention), especially the children with multiple academic difficulties. Many of them live in impoverished homes and don't often have the access to technology to assist them with their academic needs.

However, even with these difficulties, my students provide a supportive environment in my therapy room.

They know that this is a place for improvement and that no student is smarter than the other. With that in mind, they continue to use support each other however they can(e.g. verbal praise, helping their group mate with reading a word or two, etc).

My Project

Having a printer in the speech therapy room will give them access to various articles and images that they may need to complete a classroom assignment. Also, This printer will allow the children to have images in color if needed. In speech therapy, we work on helping the students grasp concepts and material in various ways.

Thus, the students who require multi-modal support to learn speech and language skills will be able to receive the visuals they need to support their learning, especially since the school is limited in resources.
