My Students

I teach second grade at a large public school located in Iowa.

Many of the students in the school receive free or reduced price lunch. My students are enthusiastic and energetic. My students come to my classroom with a variety of interests, reading levels, and language abilities.

My Project

My second grade students struggle with reading and often get frustrated because it does not come easy to him or her. I would like them to have some reading games that they would enjoy playing without knowing they are learning. Students will be able to use these materials and resources in our classroom to work independently or in a small group to practice reading skills based on the second grade curriculum. I will use reading games that focus on comprehension, phonics, and vocabulary to review skills that have been previously taught. I would also use them to review any trouble some skills.

My goal is to provide students with a rich, creative learning environment that will have them excited about reading.

This project would benefit my students by giving them an opportunity to play and learn at the same time. Along with reinforcing reading skills, it would also teach my students to be team players and give them much needed social skills.
