Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As I am the proud teacher of 12 special needs children in a low-income high poverty school district in the Bronx, New York. The obstacles they face are numerous, however they come to school every day and are greeted with a smile and a hug, ready to learn in safe, nurtured, supported environment.
My 12 energetic scholars have a love for learning about the world they live in.
They are determined to always do their best at whatever task is presented despite their challenges in their home and community. I especially love their enthusiasm!
My Project
The weekly TIME FOR KIDS magazine is a powerful reading tool for young readers. In my class of of 12 special needs children attending an urban school in the Bronx, these magazines filled with activities, games and a audio and digital component will motivate and inspire my children to read and learn about animals and their habitats, people and diverse cultures, current events, tolerance and current events. These Non-fiction articles are presented in child friendly language with real life photos. They are especially engaging for my students because of their reading disabilities. It promotes the love of reading! Aligning Time For Kids articles with the Common Core Standards in social studies, literacy, math, science, social emotional, or current events lessons whether presented digitally for whole group, small group, or independent reading.
