Inspiring Writing With Reading! 40 Books for 5th Grade

My Students
My classroom is a self-contained 5th-grade classroom where students learn academic content, but most importantly, how to be responsible for their own learning. In addition to math, reading, writing, science, and social studies, my students practice study skills and discover how they learn best.
You're never too old to enjoy a good picture book. My students can independently read a variety of books independently. However, they still beg for books to be read aloud so we can laugh and learn together.
My Project
These books will provide students with multiple examples of good writing across multiple writing genres. Reading students high quality mentor texts by inspirational writers, allows students to see, discuss, and ultimately imitate good writing. The study of models is a critical component of writing instruction. Additionally, I will be using these texts to build our classroom culture with shared literature experience.
By donating to this project, you will help students experience the beauty and power of language. My hope is that students will not only be reading for pleasure, but evaluating the author's writing style and analyze what makes that author's piece enjoyable to read. Then students will apply it to their own writing. The goal is for students to recognize that good writing is something they can all achieve and to turn my reluctant writers into prolific producers.
