This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in a low-income, urban school. While I have strong curriculum and means to effectively teach students, I am lacking technology and materials that can allow me to really enhance student learning and growth. It is so important to reach students in multiple ways and as I switch schools I want to make sure this is a priority. This is an exciting new adventure, but budget funds are low and I hope to make this experience as beneficial and engaging as possible!

The boys and girls in my classroom come from many different backgrounds, and I plan to create an unique environment that allows students to learn in the a variety of different ways.

Most of my students are faced with challenges every day. However, they come to school happy and eager to learn. It is a joy to be a part of their lives and I only hope to enhance them!

My Project

My students are asked to write several books throughout the year. In order, to improve their ability to see themselves as writers my students need more books to use as mentor text. We write narrative stories, poetry, country of origin stories, and opinion stories. Reading stories in these genres will help my students abilities to write stories similar!

Writers learn and grow from each other.

We want to learn and grow from others too! These stories will be read aloud and used as examples, but students will also be able to read them on their own and use them as mentor text! I also want them to always feel like they are writers, these binding kits will really help. Binding students books make them feel like they are actual authors! I love bringing their parents in to see these published books, especially once they are bound! They become keepsakes forever!
