This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in an urban education setting and have a wonderful group of students who are energetic and diverse. I teach three 6th grade math classes with about 32 students in each. Within these classes, there are 10 special education students embedded in a regular education setting. I also serve as the Math Department Chair and oversee the instructional practices of 6-8th grade. More than 98% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, come from broken homes and need additional support with academics, social development, and personal developments.
Each grade level has its own unique challenges and obstacles.
They struggle with the added responsibility of their new surroundings and are often pressured to make poor decisions by their peers. In my classroom, they are given the opportunities to make good choices as well as opportunities to correct the mistakes they make. This is something we will work on in all our classes this year in addition to learning through hands-on engaging lessons.
My relationships with students, foster the development of building appropriate relationships, dealing with emotions, and the ability to better support our students.
My Project
These tools will help me to provide quality virtual lessons and communication to my scholars as they learn from home during this uncertain time. I have been struggling to record lessons to make learning from home as accessible and as clear as possible for my scholars. With this tablet, I will be able to make organized and understandable instructional videos that my scholars will be able to follow along with to continue their education.
Streaming live whiteboard work will help me to show in real-time how to use the videos to complete practice and projects online.
The stylus will serve as my whiteboard marker to demonstrate accurate setup and computations of our work. Many of my scholars struggle to learn independently so I provide as much learning support as I can. These tools will make that learning even more impactful!
