The school I teach at is located in an multi-cultural community, where the highest percentage of it's residents struggle to support their children academic needs. This means that at the beginning of the school year, teachers are forced to purchase items at cost to them, so that the above mentioned students have what they need to begin a successful year. As teachers we try our best, but sometimes we aren't able to financially support all the needs of our classroom.
Third graders are without a doubt some of the most innovative, and interesting group of learners.
Their persistence and drive to succeed is relentless. Their willingness to collaborate with each other and turn-key what they learn in their classroom is astounding. Their need to establish their independence as learners and grapple with challenges gives me hope for the future. Most of my students are from communities that are underprivileged, or with low socio-economic funding. Despite this reality, daily they join their school community where the over aching goal is to become successful human beings.
My Project
We will use the notebooks during writing workshop to capture moments that inspire us as writers. Organizing our classroom with folders and bins will allow my students to be efficient and effective when collaborating and navigating challenges.
Student agency is fostered when their needs are met in an organized learning environment that targets their zone of proximal development.
Card stock, colored paper and laminating pouches will assist in extending the shelf life of differentiated teacher made resources that will be created to meet the needs of my students. I will be able to share more Powerpoint presentations and student made videos to the class because with the speakers, the volume will be crystal clear.
