Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am teaching as a brand new teacher to the district and I have heard from my colleagues and principal that my students have faced so many struggles in life and often do not have access to materials or resources that can take them outside of their district. Although often faced with home struggles, these students are still so excited to learn and and become the best version of themselves. School is a safe place for them where they feel comfortable to explore their interest and grow as an individual.

My Project

I am a first year teacher, teaching in a Title 1 school. Coming in from a very poor district where most of them have never been outside of the town, these students never had the resources that allow for them to grow their understanding of the natural world and how it works. Technology is very sparse in the school, so we have to go back to the good ol' basics in order for them to interact with science artifacts.

My goal as a first year teacher is to provide science books, magazines, and relevant articles to increase their understanding of the world around them.

Science is such a diverse subject that it is easy to ignite a spark interest in every student. The books and magazines will allow for these students to dive into the wondrous world of science.

These donations will encourage low-level and ESL students to get excited about the wonders of science while increasing their reading and comprehension skills. I have already created the space for a reading center for these students to read after work is done, and during D.E.A.R time (Drop Everything And Read). All I need is the resources for students! I believe that no matter what their situation is, these students have the full capability to become the new generation of explorers and scientist. They have the dedication, and passion to learn, all they need are the right resources!
