I work with a diverse group of elementary students and teachers. Many students come to school with trauma related problems, but they are treated with love and kindness by all. The staff at my school is like a family. We work tirelessly to take care of our students and each other. We provide students with not only basic needs, but emotional and academic support.
My students live in the suburbs of a large city, with 65% receiving free or reduced lunch.
Even with all of the challenges our students have to overcome each day, they are smiling and happy to be at school. Our school is one of the largest in the district with large class sizes and shared resources for teachers.
My Project
I want to help teachers grow professionally by giving them a book on their birthday. I have chosen books about current educational topics that teachers will be interested in. Teachers are always buying materials and professional development books with their own money.
With the books from this project, I hope to inspire teachers to continue learning new practices and put a smile on their face by gifting them with a book.
I can only imagine the great impact that these books will have on the classrooms and students at my school. Teachers will be learning about new things that they feel passionate about, and implementing them in their own classrooms which will in turn impact the students.
The books from this project will also benefit me in my new position as Lead Teacher this year. The coaching resources and variety of books will help me expand my own knowledge about teaching practices so I can better support teachers with implementing them in the classroom.
