My Students

I teach CTE, STEM, and EdTech at a small charter school located in Lehi, Utah.

My students are creative, thoughtful, ambitious, full of questions, and eager to learn.

They absolutely love hands-on, project-based, engaging assignments, and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions and apply their learning in real-world contexts. They come to school each day ready to try new things, ready to collaborate, and open to new possibilities.

My students are poised and ready to chart new paths and go the distance, all in an effort to develop their academic profiles. Every class discussion seems to grow legs, resulting in fantastic ideas for ways in which my students might launch experiential learning opportunities and dive into service-learning, action civics, or STEAM project-based learning activities.

My Project

Please help my creative artists, engineers, filmmakers, mathematicians, creative writers, and scientists take an active role in charting a path for their future.

Help me to improve learning, drive inspiration, and elevate this diverse group of students to connect to their inner passions, recognize their own strengths, and begin to prepare and plan for their futures by exploring careers and learning via a dynamic CTE curriculum.

Using this CTE/ career exploration curriculum and the materials included in the STEM kits, I can design an authentic, learner-driven environment that recognizes and even accommodates for learner variability. With these resources, I will be able to improve student engagement and ultimately, achievement.

Each unit is packed with activities that let students discover the world of work as they use the following skills: reading, math, reasoning, writing, art, design, and cooperative learning. Topics include What Do I Want to Be?, Career Education and Training, Making Career Choices, Resumés, Applications, and Interviews, and Developing Soft Skills.

This group of kids has already been learning the design and technical skills needed to prepare for STEM applications, but they lack the resources and technology to even attempt the projects they have already dreamt up and envision in their minds. Funding this project will put those tools directly in the hands of my students, enabling them to follow through with their learning and experience computer science using the Raspberry Pi computer kits.

My objective is to help my students assess and demonstrate leadership skills and make ethical decisions while developing the soft skills that enhance one’s interactions, job performance, and career prospects, and that make up the skills increasingly sought after by employers. Through study and practice, this curriculum will allow for exactly that development, while at the same time igniting engagement and learning amongst my students.
