Technology is especially important to our VPK-5th grade students during the school day because many students do not have access to this learning modality at home. Our school is a Title I school located within a large city. The students are eager to learn but come from impoverished homes with limited resources and poor parental support. Many students have not been exposed to a PreK program and thus start school behind other children that have had a variety of experiences before starting formal instruction.
Technology is always changing and bringing new possibilities and opportunities into our students' realm of learning. The materials I am requesting for this project were chosen to inspire my students to become both users and creators of technology. The iPads will be paired with the Merge cubes to enhance science concepts in a 3-D world. Students will view a beating heart, the skeletal system of a shark and the rotating planets of the Universe.
Students will become creators of their own learning with the use of new technologies!
After learning about a specific science concept, students will use "wevideo" to collaboratively produce a short video using student-produced text and a wealth of images and videos from the app. Students will plan, research, produce, edit and provide feedback to other projects as they learn about science concepts through video production.
