My second grade ICT students are ready to face each and everyday with excitement. My class consists of Special Education students, ENL students of all levels, most of which have recently arrived to New York City and a few general education students. All of my students love to learn and many of them are kinesthetic or visual learners.
I want to give each of my students the foundation that they need so that they can aspire to be anything that they want to be and overcome any obstacles or challenges they may face along the way.
My Title One school in Flushing, Queens has been working on social, emotional wellness by implementing Ruler. We recognize the importance of being mentally and emotionally healthy by connecting with one another.
My second graders and future students will greatly benefit from your help by allowing them to receive the materials that they need in order to be successful.
My Project
These materials are critical when teaching science to my students. My school does not have a science teacher, and we lack necessary resources that can engage and excite students in their learning. I want to ignite a passion for learning in my students with these materials.
My ICT 2nd graders learn best through being engaged in project based learning activities that are hands on and help bring the outside world into my classroom, not through using books.
Students can truly learn about plants through planting and potting their own seeds, and observing their seeds go through the life cycle of a plant. They can keep their plants and share their learning at home with their families. The games about plants will be used for station learning with groups of students, that will help engage them and make their learning fun.
Colored paper and sentence strips will help groups be able to present their work to the class in colorful ways that will help them stay excited when presenting their projects. The rock kits will show the students what we may find when we are digging in the soil. They will be able to hold them and use our previously donated magnifying glasses to help them investigate them in their groups.
These materials will help keep my students focused, and give them an important foundation that they need if they want to pursue an education in science. Every child deserves the chance to have access to the materials they need in order to be successful and excited about learning. I want my students to remember 2nd grade as a pivotal year that educationally inspired them, and we need your donation to make that happen! Thank you so much in advance!
