Inspiring Our Students To An Amazing Future In STEM!
My students need to be inspired to pursue careers in STEM. Help us by donating toward supplies needed for our expo like raffle tickets, HEX Bugs and other supplies needed to make the day awesome!
My students embrace creativity combined with technology. They design, model, program, and test mobile robots. This robotics education they receive is rigorous and demanding for middle school students. My students come from a diverse background including 50% girls and 50% boys, and different races/ethnicity. They enthusiastically dive into our engineering and robotics classes and clubs.
Our students are eager for STEM opportunities, which is evident in the fact that our robotics camp filled to capacity in the first 40 minutes of open registration.
We are holding several registration spots for girls as our goal each year is to maintain our 50% girl, 50% boy ratio.
My Project
I am planning this first time event in conjunction with our school's robotics and engineering parent booster organization. This is a free event designed for the whole community, especially students in 3rd-12th grade, to see and experience all that our school has to offer for engineering classes and engineering clubs. Several local companies, universities, and Milford teachers will be there to share what they offer for STEM careers and education. A dozen STEM professionals will be giving short, 15-minute talks/presentations about their STEM career.
Our goal is to equip our children with skills, knowledge, and experience so that they are best prepared for success in world of increasing change and competition.
This is an open format expo, come and go as you like, walk around and talk to people about STEM-related topics, experience hands-on STEM activities, listen to great speakers, and WIN PRIZES! The longer you are there, the greater your chance to win a prize.
Much of the budget in this project will fund raffle prizes in an effort to motivate students to attend this STEM focused event. We know that if we can get the students excited about STEM in elementary school, they will have a much better chance to continue on the STEM path as they move into middle and high school. We will offer raffle prizes, such as HEX Bugs, Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot and a Drone, throughout the morning with students earning raffle tickets for engaging with STEM professionals and attending STEM presentations. To start the morning off with a bang, the first 40 kids to speak with one of our Expo sponsors at their booth after the doors open @ 8:30 AM will immediately receive a special prize! For more information including speakers and topic titles, go to www.milfordengineering.org.
