Do you remember getting hooked on a series of books as a child? Think of the anticipation and excitement you felt waiting for and then finally reading the prized next installment in your favorite series. My fifth graders share that excitement and joy of waiting for and then finally devouring the newest books in their favorite series. My students are inquisitive, voracious readers who are craving to discover the newest adventures in their favorite book series. With your help, these 5th graders can access book series’ that are culturally relevant to them.
When I was in school, I remember being amazed at the number of books my school library had. Each week it was a treat to hunt for the perfect book to excite my imagination and challenge my reading skills. Unfortunately, my students do not get that novelty.
The school I currently teach at does not have space for a library of our own.
The books in my classroom are some of the only ones my students will have the opportunity to read. Many have been failed by the schools they came from and have made YEARS worth of reading growth in the 4 months they’ve been in my class. Our amazing school leaders ensured we each had a class library to start off our year, but my students are flying through the books. With your help, my students will carry their love of reading through the end of the school year.
