Monroe County Community School Corporation is located in Bloomington, Indiana--home of the IU Hoosiers! The University influence contributes to a rich cultural tapestry in our classrooms. I taught for 15 years and used my Masters degree in educational technology to create innovative assignments for students.
Students are motivated by their own curiosity, and Monroe County Community School Corporation is working to provide projects and opportunities for students to question, explore, and engage.
I've seen success as a teacher when I've provided these assignments in my classroom. As a technology coordinator and digital coach, I've had the chance to share tools with teachers and create district-wide events that help utilize student inquiry.
My Project
Monroe County Community School Corporation is exploring ways to provide more learning opportunities using computer science and computational thinking. We would like to give students a chance to engage in hands-on activities that use these principles such as maker activities and robotics. In this week-long training, we will explore how to both take advantage of ScratchJr and KIBO for helping children think in new logical ways, but also for collaborating and developing socio-emotional awareness.
I will learn about teaching strategies and materials to integrate programming with other areas of the early childhood curriculum, with a special focus on literacy, creative problem solving, arts and dance.
As a result, I will then be able to share this information with K-2 teachers and even preschool staff across the school district.
