This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are dedicated to learning and benefit from hands-on group projects that break down language barriers and strengthen social-emotional skills. Manipulative materials provide equitable experiences and create opportunities for young developing minds. My middle schoolers are motivated to work toward a successful future and thrive in a supportive learning environment.

My Project

My students really enjoy hands on activities and learning through experience. As middle schoolers they are easily distracted, however, they do ultimately love to learn and be successful. Recently, we received a grant for a Crested Gecko as a class pet. The students are already ecstatic about the new addition to our classroom. This is really going to help them develop their Social-Emotional skills with empathy and caring for another living thing.

I believe in teaching the students how to care for the gecko, and slowly giving out more and more responsibility so they learn these important life skills.

One thing that helps is making signs. Since we have to use our own paper, I am running low on this supply. Laminating these papers turns them into whiteboards. Students will be able to use dry erase markers to write temporary Scientific information. I like to make half sheets to save paper when giving handouts. The paper cutter is extremely helpful with efficient cutting. The basket trays keep these markers organized. Headphones give students the ability to hear their own computer with any informational videos.

The rest of the supplies will help the gecko live a healthy and comfortable life, such as the food, heat lamps, and coconut bedding. The books will further support students independence in taking care of him. Crested Geckos enjoy climbing and hiding, which he will love exploring with the vines. The rock food dish will replace his current recyclable dishes. The automatic humidifier will keep his terrarium a preferred tropical climate when we are not in class.
