My students need 50 draw-and-write journals with high quality paper to help inspire their writing. They are first graders, and need the appropriate type of lines.

My Students

Do you remember how hard it was to write on that newsprint paper that they always had in school? Wasn't it frustrating when you had to erase something and ended up with a hole in your paper? I want my students to love writing, not to be frustrated by poor quality journal paper.

My students come from a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds.

They attend a school that has ages pre-school to eighth grade. Many of my students are reluctant readers and writers, with little parent support at home. School is the only time where they get to practice their reading and writing skills.

My Project

I am requesting enough high quality journals to last the entire school year. These journals are made of high quality paper, that doesn't rip easily. They also have lines that are appropriate for first grade students to write on. They have bright colorful covers, that are inviting to small children. With these journals, my students will be inspired to write often, and to share their writing with others. With writing, the more you write the easier it becomes.

To get a child to learn to read, they have to practice daily.

The same concept applies to writing. You have to write daily to get better at it. These journals will allow my students to write daily without any frustrations about the paper or the lines. They will allow them to draw pictures to help inspire and clarify their writing. The journals are bound, so they will hold up to daily use, as well as make a great keepsake for the parents at the end of the year. The kids will write all year long!
