Henry (name changed) loves cars and hopes to be a car designer when he grows up . He paints, draws and builds them every chance he gets. With an iPad, Henry could use current and vital technology to animate his car drawings.
My students attend an Arts/Performing Arts/AVID school in a low-economic area in Florida.
The student population is mainly African American and high-poverty. Many students come to school without the basic supplies, and have not been given the chance to use their imaginations and creativity to express themselves. I can only dream of what my students could produce given the proper tools.
My Project
Adding a technological component with an iPad will allow my students to create art using 21st century methods. They will gain valuable skills that will help them them bridge to future technologies.
With an iPad, students will be able to create paintings using programs such as "ArtRage" and "SketchBook Pro." A program called "Faces I Make" allows students to make collages using a variety of items.
Students like Henry can use DoInk Animation to make their drawings "come alive" and give them practice using technology skills they will need later in the job market.
The printer and cartridges will allow them to share their art with their families, our learning community, and other students throughout our school.
The students will learn how to use technology to create art and express themselves in ways they have not had a chance to do because of their limited supplies. Because iPads are exciting, they will be more interested in the projects they can create.
