Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a great group of kids. I have a classroom that is culturally diverse and many of my students are English language learners.
Although this is a small town with only six elementary schools, my students deal daily with the problems commonly associated with large urban school districts.
We have a high poverty population, and the neighborhood is not the safest. Regardless, my students come to school every day with smiles on their faces and ready to learn.
My Project
My students love, and are super interested in, science. They need a well rounded science library that caters to their interests, can be used in tandem with our science curriculum, and provides exciting photography to help build their visual literacy. I am requesting eighteen nonfiction science books including Whale, Eyewitness Bird and Jungle.
My students don't have the resources to experience firsthand much of what we learn about, and these books were chosen because they are visually exciting and pique children's natural curiosity.
It is my hope that by providing excellent science literature, my students will be inspired to be the next generation of great discovers... because, our children are worth the investment.
