Inspiring Future Scientists!

My students need a frog development kit, an incubator with an automatic turner, and 25 frogs to complete their life science unit.

My Students

If you ever dissected an animal in Science class, you probably have a vivid memory of that experience. My students will really feel like scientist when they cut open their frogs and are engaged in the process of hatching baby chicks!

I am teaching seventh grade science with a curriculum that stresses inquiry based learning.

My students come from diverse backgrounds which affects their prior knowledge and their levels of learning. My class uses cooperative learning as a tool for success because it allows my students to showcase their areas of strength while also allowing them to work with their peers to improve their areas of struggle. Inquiry-based learning gives my students the opportunity to learn through trial-and-error which is a skill they will need throughout their lives. My students learn just as much, if not more, by being "productive failures" as they do when they complete the labs correctly.

My Project

My students will use the materials requested to better understand the biology of organisms. They will be able to observe the development of tadpoles and chicks and also dissect frogs! The animals will help my students to bring the curriculum to life. Studying the tadpoles, chicks, and frogs will bring about a deeper comprehension of life science inside as well as outside the classroom.

What better way is there to learn than by doing?

It is my hope that by conducting these labs in my class at least one of my students will be inspired to pursue a science-based career.
