Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a class of 33 curious and active fifth graders. We are a diverse class who values and honors our differences.
Our favorite part of the day is closely gathering at the front of the class and enjoying a picture book.
We laugh. We wriggle in anticipation for the next page. Here we also get to share about our lives.
We also love to do and create. We know we are our world's future, and we want to be ready to conquer the world.
My Project
If you think of your favorite book as a child, it's probably not your fifth grade science textbook. It probably won't be my students' favorite either. In our class, we enjoy a picture book each day. Through picture books, students have learned about our country's history and important lessons of perseverance, kindness, and tolerance.
I'd like students to learn about science, mathematics, and engineering principles and concepts through picture books.
Rosie Revere, Engineer will begin our prototype lessons. Mae Among the Stars will introduce our space unit.
Kids need a reason to pick up the science book. Hooking them with literature and hands-on science experiences and phenomena, will bring them to pick up the science non-fiction text. Help me bring science to live with literature.
