Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are outstanding learners who are very eager and excited to think outside the box. I'm requesting a classroom rug to be used as a learning tool for students to build and strengthen their addition and subtraction skills. The rug will also benefit the students that struggle with number sense. It will increase their knowledge with even and odd numbers. These are just a few of the skills that the students will acquire by using this mathematical carpet. I'm proud to say that even though my students experienced the trauma from Hurricane Harvey and the aftermath that affected our community they are still excited to learn. My students are having to share their homes with others due to the Hurricane and parents are unable to provide the students with the educational supplies that are needed in the classroom. My students will be excited to know that there's someone willing to help us reach our success.
My Project
The new rug with numbers to 100 will give my students more hands-on experience during whole group time, center time and small group. The students will have a chance to visualize the numbers increasing and/or decreasing when solving an addition and subtraction number sentence. The students watch educational videos and play math games while sitting on a very old dirty and outdated carpet. Due to the rug being old the numbers are vanishing away. I truly feel this educational rug will definitely help support my students in reaching a higher academic level. Students will also gain confidence while enjoying fun and interactive activities daily.
