Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are basically the best, and they love to read! Our student body is diverse, ready to learn, eager to succeed, and determined to reach their goals!
They come from all over the world: Mexico and the Philippines, Bolivia and Colombia, and many were born and raised in East Palo Alto, California.
91% of our students participate in the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program. 90% of our students speak English as a second language. 98% of our students will be first-generation college students.
Our students will rise to any bar we set for them, so we like to set it high!
My Project
Each year, our school has a huge celebration at the end of February to showcase the learning our students have done and highlight the connection to African American history and culture. There are class dances, individual performances, booths, community awards, a book fair, and classroom presentations. But we can't let the learning and engagement stop there!
I want to add high-interest, award-winning books to our school library to make sure our students stay engaged and keep celebrating Black History Month year round!
These books, including 2019 Coretta Scott King Book Award Winners and Honorees, will help all students in our school keep celebrating for the rest of this year and for years to come!
