Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second grade class is comprised of 40 amazing super shark students, many of whom come from a high population of low-income households and receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Our district serves a very large multicultural community that comes from high levels of poverty and struggles on a daily basis to make ends meet.
My goal is to create the best learning experience for my students that will help them develop 21st-Century skills and abilities for life thanks to a positive and nurturing environment that fosters a love for learning across subjects. I aim to provide them with the tools necessary for them to thrive and reach their dreams.
My Project
My students will use these art materials with small group activities during language art instruction at universal time. Some items include activity dough, dot paint, abc mats, rollers, glitter, scissors, markers, sensory materials and manipulatives in the classroom to enhance language arts instruction. During writing workshop time it is imperative that they have the necessary materials to explore, create and expand their knowledge of the concepts being taught. The materials will be used to bring manipulatives into the language arts curriculum as well as integrate the arts into core subjects. These materials will put much needed opportunities of sensory exploration and curiosity into my students’ hands, as well as help them close the gap and grow into second grade end of the year expectations and beyond. My students are English learners and this year we are transitioning into a dual language program, I need to replenish all the materials I can for them, since many of the resources I used in the past are in English, I feel my classroom is empty now and ready to create a new and inviting environment that shelters their native language, Spanish, and also invites them to create, imagine and dream in everything that is possible. I want them to become the person they will be in their lives without anything holding them back.
My students will be thrilled to come to a "first class" room, and with your help they will have all the materials and support we need.
