Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from a low socio- economic background with diverse needs. A lot of our families work in our local farming areas as well as in the community. Our community is small and it is nestled in by beautiful sand dunes near the Pacific Ocean.
My students love the challenges of working on a project whether it be through art or science.
Their creativity thrives when they get to put their own ideas into action. I enjoy seeing how much happiness they get from their own creations.
My Hispanic families say that they enjoy the art projects that I do with their students besides the academics. They mentioned to me that while they need to learn the fundamentals of that grade they appreciate the time that is being spent on having their child be creative.
My Project
Our students enjoy art and I have been designing lessons that reflect famous artists along the way. We have talked about the great masterpieces and show them that in art one can weave in language arts and math. The supplies that I have requested will help explore the different styles that artist has depicted in their work. For example using the liquid watercolor I can have the students learn to explore Juan Miro's "People and Dog in Sun." by drawing stick figures, stars and circles.
By donating to our class our students will get the chance to experience using different art materials and media to create their own projects.
Art is one of those areas where it exercises the other half of the brain and helps with academics by allowing the students to be problem solvers and creative with their work.
