"Dagot'ee"(Hello in Apache). Our school is located in beautiful White Mountain Apache land on the Ft. Apache Indian Reservation. All students that attend our school are Native American.
Our school is different from most!
We are a day school and a boarding school. Some of our students live on campus and go home on weekends in nearby Indian communities. We also have kids that come from communities further away and only go home on Holidays. Many of our students are enrolled in behavioral health services.
Our class is even more unique! We combine STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education with SEL (Social and Emotional Learning). We see every student in the school twice a week and we also offer after school STEM for students who stay at the dorms.
We are really fortunate and excited to offer our students the opportunity to learn skills that will help get them interesting in STEM career fields while at the same time educating them about social and self awareness, self management, and effective communication skills.
My Project
Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are emerging technologies that allows students to create, manipulate and share virtual spaces. An iPad can be used to enhance learning in any subject/topic including history, science, engineering, 3D printing and literacy.
One of the project my students will complete are virtual worlds that brings Apache and other Native American history to life.
Students will use computer generated 3D virtual spaces to experience and recreate history. This project will allow students to explore ancient and sacred sites, design virtual worlds that allows them convey what it was like in a different time, and 3D print some of the artifacts in their world. Upon completion, my students will present their virtual worlds and 3D printed objects to other students, school staff and administrators, school board members and the rest of the world via web.
