Inspire Young Readers

My students need themed books with materials such as art supplies, Legos, origami paper and book lights to inspire reading through creativity

My Students

My students love hands-on learning, there is no doubt they become more engaged and inspired. I want to bring that same inspiration to reading by empowering students through art.

"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn" -Benjamin Franklin.

I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such motivated and creative learners! My students are more interested in learning than simply being taught, so every opportunity to provide learning, in an interesting way, is that much more meaningful. Many of my students come from a low socioeconomic background and have limited resources available to them outside of school. I want them to have every opportunity to not only be able to read but to also have a love of reading.

My Project

My classroom is filled with readers of varying ability and interest in reading. By coordinating their creativity with books they will have another avenue to literacy. They will read about origami and then create their own art from what they learned. They will read about Lego creations and then have the opportunity to construct with this new knowledge and their own imagination. They also will have favorite books like Minecraft and Katie Kazoo and then use Legos or art materials to retell the story.

By donating to this project you will be helping to engage my students in literacy by providing ways for them to explore, create and design projects directly connected to the books they read.

Whether they currently enjoy reading or not, they will all benefit by having the ability to express their reading through art. They will look forward to the different projects that will all begin with reading.
