I am a first grade teacher at an elementary school in Onslow County, North Carolina. We currently have 43% of our students receiving free lunch and 2% are English Limited. Being a small school, with an increasing population, our funds are extremely limited. Also, we have a very diverse social and economic pool of students. As everyone knows, children have many ways of expressing themselves such as writing, speaking, etc. One thing that I want to provide for my twenty students is a way to express themselves through painting. The students learn how to use the paintbrush to create their own original pictures of self, others, animals and objects. My students can create their masterpieces that they are proud of to take home to mom and dad. I'm sure many of you with children remember those days when your child came home with a big grin on their face as they hand you their work of art to hang on your refrigerator. Those are the types of opportunities that I wish to give my students. All that my classroom requires in order to provide these opportunities to the students is an art easel with paint supplies so that each day they are able to bring home masterpieces to their parents.
