My students need Storyworks magazines as a supplemental material for reading instruction in all of the fourth grade classrooms.

My Students

My students are from a high poverty area. Over 60% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Many of our families are supportive, but have limited resources to provide for their child's classroom needs.

Our students come from a mixture of backgrounds, cultures and races.

Students' test scores are generally below the state average on standardized tests. Our school is labeled as a struggling school and currently has a D rating. While our students continue to grow academically, they currently do not meet the standard set by the state.

My Project

I would like to provide Storyworks magazines for all of the fourth graders at my school. These magazines will provide students with engaging, supplemental reading materials that students can annotate and interact with.

Storyworks magazine provides a variety of genres for students to explore and enjoy.

Selections are presented in a visually appealing format that will attract student interest create excitement about the text.

Students will read about topics that are of interest to them, which will ignite their love of reading. They will also be encouraged to go beyond the magazine and research topics to find out additional information. Students will practice all of their ELA skills through the use of these magazines.
