I want to give my students the opportunity to enjoy learning math and apply real-life situations while doing it. This will give my special education students the opportunity to see why math is important. Children learn best through play. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. It is important for healthy brain development. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them. Providing hands on experiences help our students unplug from digital devices and learn to problem solve and think creatively as they interact with each other and the materials they are using. Play can add joy to life, relieve stress, supercharge learning and who wouldn't want for their child. I would also use the cash register at the end of the week when they purchase items from "Our Store" to take home. This incorporates math skills for rewards. I also have students with sensory issues and frustrating situations. My goal for my students is to teach them how to be productive members of society after they graduate. I believe the two most important skills would be reading and math!
