Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a difficult part of our town and with that comes many challenges in and of itself, but because of their optimism and perseverance, they are so excited to learn and grow here. Each morning they come in with huge smiles, and some are even jumping up and down with excitement for what they will be learning that day. It's very contagious and something I look forward to every day!
My students are my family here, and yes I really mean that.
We work hard and we play hard. I am proud of each and every little accomplishment. A large part of Kindergarten is spent learning how to be in a classroom, learning the sounds and letter names, reading, writing, counting, how to be a friend to other people who may be different, hygiene, etc. This is a year of tremendous growth, and there is so much fun to be had because of it!
My Project
Osmo is a wonderful program that fosters creativity as well as pushes students to think and look for new ways to solve problems. I truly believe teachers should teach creativity and innovation as much as possible and in every subject. No one truly knows the jobs that will be available in the coming years and I want my students to have a niche in the world, creativity gives them that niche and Osmo gives them the tools to practice it. Osmo is a software designed to have students solve a problem and then solve it again in a different way. The writing/drawing Osmo program I'm specifically asking for will help my students bring their writing to life, and Osmo coding can show my students that we can use math to create and explore!
There is no doubt that Osmo can help my students grow academically, but most importantly Osmo can help my students become innovative thinkers.
We need people in the world who can be innovative and for that to happen teachers need to foster creativity. I teach with that in mind. My students love to solve problems and when I first introduced Osmo to them they didn't even know they were solving problems in multiple ways. It came natural to them. Please help me provide them with more opportunities to cultivate their creativity.
