Inspire And Motivate Bilingual Readers With Books!
My students need fiction and non-fiction books translated in Spanish in order to become experts in reading Spanish text.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are bright, energetic, and ready to learn! Our school is a Title 1 school where 68% of the students are on free and reduced breakfast and lunch.
Many students in our community have been displaced because of Hurricane Harvey and are living with family members and are struggling financially and emotionally.
Over half of our 850 students are English language learners and in the Dual Language Program. In this program, students spend 50% of their time at school learning in English, and 50% of their time at school learning in Spanish.
Even with all of the obstacles, our school just received the distinction of being a No Excuses University School and we take pride in encouraging our students to plan and work toward continuing their education after High School!
My Project
Our students are learning to become expert readers in both English and Spanish, but we lack necessary books in Spanish to ensure that they develop biliteracy. The nonfiction books will help our third through fifth grade students become experts at reading and relaying information they attain through books such as Tornados y huracanes and other informational books.
Harry Potter y la orden del fenix and La leccion de August: Wonder are books that will inspire our students to develop the love of reading!
This love for reading can only be developed through limitless exposure of quality children's literature that is entertaining and engaging. These books are an essential resource that will enable me to empower each student on a personal level. Please help me make a difference in our title I school. Our students deserve the best!
