Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

How do you create a creator? Our future innovators need the components to design, prototype, and manufacture their ideas for creative mechatronics products.

My students are minorities, primarily from low socioeconomic backgrounds where science and engineering are not seen as typical career pathways.

All of the students in Mechatronics class have shown a strong interest in pursuing a STEM future, and are ready for a more rigorous STEM experience!

This project is for an urban New York public high school class of sophomores and juniors exploring electronics, programming, control systems, and mechanical design, primarily using the Arduino platform.

My Project

Our students have shown an interest in STEM, and have applied for a course in making with electronics. In order to learn how to construct their own projects, they need to explore an array of components. Each student will use these electrical components throughout the year to research and accomplish a series of challenges.

In Mechatronics class, students become makers.

With the right materials and instruction, they can bring see their imagination become a reality.

Students will be introduced to programming by getting LEDs to turn on and off using the Arduino platform. Each component from this order will be used for a series of challenges: Students will use the push buttons to control traffic lights. They will use the servo motors to create windshield wipers, and use potentiometers and 7-segment displays to control volume for a project.

By the end of the year, our students will have the ability to choose from a wide range of components, and know how to research them on their own to create their own new product!
