Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are an eager, active group of school-loving children. They come to school to hang out with their friends and fill their minds with knowledge. My students feed off the energy of each other and rely on each other to build their confidence.
Being in a special education program, they know the importance of empathy and teamwork.
They always root each other on and support each other. They all have unique personalities, and that's what makes my class such a fun and exciting place to be.
My Project
My class is on their way to improving behaviors! They are learning what it means to be a team player through morning circles and classroom check in's. My class has learned appropriate and effective social skills through free choice and structure game time. They are learning to hold themselves accountable through classroom jobs and morning work routines. My class is learning responsibility through completing weekly homework and occasional extra credit assignments.
Overall they are trying to be better students, citizens, children and eventually young adults.
In order to continue with this positive change in behavior I need inspirational posters to remind them what is expected of them. We also need Mood Flip books, to help those students who need to verbally express how they are feeling before escalating due to frustrations. We need token boards to help break up big assignments into smaller, less intimidating assignments. The class would also love to earn Jenga time with a 5 ft Jenga game as an incentive for appropriate behavior!
