My Students

My students are from a large, urban community that is made up of various ethnicities from all over the world. We are a Title I school, and we educate a large population of English Language Leaners (ELs) as well as students who live below the poverty line. Free breakfast and lunch are available to every student in our building each day, as well as a free fruit/vegetable snack a few days of the week.

My students love to learn!

The students in my class are clever and caring young people with bright futures ahead of them!

My Project

With a classroom theme of superheroes, I would like the opportunity to teach my students about how every day, regular people became superheroes to their communities. By adding these picture book biographies to my collection of read alouds, and then to my classroom library, I will be able to introduce my students to famous people who used their gifts and talents to make the world a better place.

The books selected for this project incorporate a number of men and women, from various ethnic backgrounds, whose talents range from science, to sports, to civil rights and beyond.

I hope that these stories will help inspire my learners to change our world with their own gifts and talents.
