I teach at a school that is very multicultural and socio-economically diverse. No matter their backgrounds, my students would all benefit from reading and discussing poignant books. I have set up an inviting reading area with my own funds. Now I just need help purchasing the books.
My goal this year is to buy books for small group reading.
The titles I have chosen are books which I believe change a person (for the good, of course). If you would like to be a part of deepening these students' understandings of the world and developing their compassion, please donate.
My Project
I have chosen books such as A Long Walk to Water and Touching Spirit Bear. We have single copies of books, but research has shown how important it is for students to interact while reading. For more information on the benefits of collaborative learning, look up data from Dr. John Hattie. Dr. John Hattie's research indicates the effectiveness of collaboration and reciprocal teaching.
I want students reading books which will widen their knowledge and make them more empathetic people.
Books can change your soul. My goal is to choose books that they can relate to and want to discuss. Their reading will improve and so will their character.
