Chaos and order describe the creations in the Muppet universe. These words can also be used to describe students in middle school. Middle school students who thrive in chaos love sound, talking, laughter. They can find success in an environment where group exploration and communication with peers occurs daily. The students who are order need an environment that is quiet, with agendas and routines. My job is to find the balance and to teach how we communicate when our classmates are the opposite of what we tend to be.
I have the pleasure of teaching English Language Arts to about 130 students on a daily basis.
My students come to me from all walks of life. Some come from very nuclear households where families have meals together and travel to exotic places on holidays. Some come through my doors without having every been out of the city they currently reside in. Finally, some of my students are do not have a place that they can call home on regular basis.
It does not matter to me where my chaos and order students come from. They are all my sweet angel babies and deserve the very best.
My Project
This is the first time in 14 years as an educator that I have been given a class of 30 8th grade students to teach. We will meet each day around 2:00 p.m. for ELA and will start off the school year with a novel study of The Outsiders. My school has three 8th grade ELA teachers with one class set of books. It would be wonderful to have set that I can keep in my classroom for students to use on a regular basis. If we do not get the books we need, we will share copies of the books we have with the two other teachers.
