The students I work with on a daily basis come from a wide variety of backgrounds and their home lives are all vastly different. I want to make our third grade classroom their home away from home and a place for their creativity to burst through.
My students come to school eager to learn more about the world around them.
My goal is to prepare them for their future, whether it to be college bound or into a trade. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
I want my students to learn about healthy eating and the importance of nutrition. I want them to identify with different types of nutritious foods and understand that eating healthy will increase their energy and optimize their health, which will maximize their learning. Foods that are the most nutritious have the least ingredients.
Students will use the AeroGarden and seed pod kits to grow and harvest their own food in our classroom.
Students will work together. They will use their Math and Science skills to monitor their gardens. A garden will be a tremendous educational opportunity that teaches skills that could be utilized for the rest of their lives.
The Aerogarden will teach my students about hydroponics (growing plants using water and nutrients). Students will observe the changes in our garden and record their results. They will be able to compare and contrast similarities and differences of different plants and make decisions based on their findings. They will be using inquiry to interpret their data and predict what will happen next based on their decisions. Growing a school garden that engages students will be a learning opportunity that will take them above and beyond!
