As a teacher of students in low income/single-parent family homes, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. The students in my classroom have a range of different abilities.
Living in low income/single-parent family homes may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may deprive them of life experiences many of us see as "typical".
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
The materials I have selected will be used to show my students first hand the life cycle of different types of insects and animals. With the real bugs discovery kit my students can look at different bugs without harming bugs outside. Size and color bugs can be used with the hands on graphing tray to sort the different insects into similar categories. My goal is to help my students become aware of the life cycle of many different kinds of living things including insects.
These insect additions to our centers will be perfect for our students as they explore the world of bugs throughout the remainder of the school year and this summer.
I hope that you consider this project and show my students the amazing life cycle of insects and animals!
