This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Kindergarten through 3rd-grade scientists attend a high-poverty school in Wisconsin. I am extremely fortunate to be their elementary science teacher, and I am the only science teacher in our district for this age group. Our school has a new lab, and the students go two times a week to participate in hands-on activities that explore life, earth, and physical sciences. They are also involved in STEM activities that explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. They are excited and eager to learn, and one day they may become scientists themselves.
My Project
My young entomologists are excited to learn about insects. Many students do not know the names of basic insects. To them everything is an ant or a roach.
Your donation will open up the world of all types of insects and butterflies.
These types of engaging materials are unavailable to our school and students. Because the Giant Bug Collection and Butterfly Counters are made for young children, they will be able to sort and classify the insects by various attributes. They can also use them to count and graph which are important activities in our STEM/Science Lab. Older students will be able to research and draw the life cycles of these insects. All students will become insect investigators!
