Insatiatiable Readers Need Sets of Books for Literature Circles

My students need 6 copies each of 25 chapter books to read in daily literature circles in order to maintain the level of reading in the classroom throughout the year, including titles such as "Loser", "Because of Winn-Dixie" and "Esperanza Rising".

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I cannot keep up with the demand for quality chapter books in the classroom. My students are reading at a quick pace and I am about to run out of literature circle books for them to read.

My students have a variety of interests from diaries, to mysteries, to action/adventure, to historical fiction and beyond.

Many students would rather spend their time reading on the bench than participating in recess. My school is a Title I school in California comprised of Hispanic and African American students. Most of them do not have books at home, so I have created my own library of high interest books.

My Project

My students need more chapter books to read in daily literature circles in order to maintain the level of reading in the classroom throughout the year, including titles such as Loser, Because of Winn-Dixie and Esperanza Rising. I want reading to catch fire with my students. I want them to discover that one book that forever changes how and when they read books. Through daily literature circles guided by me, the teacher, students will be able to sample a variety of books with a myriad of themes. My students will also learn fundamental skills in reading throughout the process including: inferences, drawing conclusions, main idea, and cause & effect relationships. These are the areas of reinforcement in my classroom, though they tend to be yearly areas of focus.

My ultimate goal is to help foster a climate where students become life long readers and thinkers.

Your donation will go toward providing the resources, books, my class direly needs in order to continue our journey in reading and understanding text. Your donation will last over many years because I teach the students to respect and take care of their books.
