Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach at a school with lots of love and passion, but also with a lack of resources. My students are eager and ready to learn about science and the natural world. Some of my students are new to this country, and they are actively learning the English language. Their curiosity causes them to inquire about everything. I believe that with some essential classroom resources, my students would be able to reach their full potential, both personally and academically. Thank you!

My Project

In our sixth-grade science class, we learn how to think scientifically by constantly asking "why?" Throughout the year we have researched and learned fundamental science concepts such as the Nature of Science, Cells, and the Classification of Living Things. The most effective way my students have been able to reinforce these concepts is through hands-on activities.

At the culmination of each year, our science department typically orchestrates a major dissection lab for each grade, with sixth graders dissecting owl pellets.

However, this year I fear we will not have enough resources for the sixth graders' dissection. I cannot think of a better way for the students to sum up a year of scientific learning, than through a hands-on dissection. Therefore, I hope you will consider a donation towards encouraging the exploratory and curious minds of my young scientists.
