First graders' minds are like little sponges - they are just waiting to absorb new information! Hands-on activities are a wonderful way to afford them opportunities to explore and learn difficult science topics such as force and motion.
My classroom is comprised of a wonderfully diverse group of students from inner-city neighborhoods.
As is the case with most of these areas, 95% of them qualify for free-or reduced lunch. They are coming to me anxious to learn and ready to discover new ideas.
My Project
All four components of this project are a phenomenal way to present this scientific topic to students. The Force and Motion Book Library is a wonderful means to introduce the concept and develop the background knowledge needed to support understanding. The activity tub provides hands on exploration and the pocket chart assists through the visualization of key vocabulary for the topic of force and motion. The file folder games provide a means to expand upon the content covered. By playing games specifically designed to touch upon key concepts, the students learn and develop knowledge via an enjoyable format.
This project will provide the means for my students to expand their scientific knowledge about force and motion.
The resources will afford them additional classroom opportunities for learning as well as extra practice in key skill areas.
