Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine going to work each day and not understanding a word of what people are saying to you for hours. This is the challenge that several of my students must face each day.
My school district ranks as the number one point of entry for English language learners new to the U.S.
statewide. Approximately 60% are English learners and approximately 87% of the students participate in the free or reduced-price lunch program. We want to prepare our learners to be college and career ready for a work place of jobs that have not been created yet. Our mission is to work with parents to establish an excellent foundation for lifelong learning, a strong sense of responsibility, and a respect for self and others by nurturing, guiding, and challenging all of our students to aim high, take pride in their achievements, believe in themselves and reach their maximum potential.
My Project
Many of the students in my classroom do not have access to technology in their home. Entering Kindergarten is an exciting time. It opens doors to so many new experiences for the young learners. If I am able to put five tablets in my room, I will have five learners at a time that can expand their letter and sound knowledge of the alphabet and improve math skills by going on websites that are age appropriate and fun. The students will not even realize they are gaining knowledge. I have one laptop in the room presently. All our resources are going to the older grades to ready students for the on-line common core testing. The older grades will be testing on-line rather than paper and pencil. Please consider helping prepare my young and eager learners with the access they need to become familiar with technology.
The knowledge they gain now is something that they will carry with them and build upon for the rest of their lives.
Please help me start these Kindergarten students off strong and ready for the challenges ahead.
